Business is never just business. It's BIGGER!

A member of a the waitstaff in a restaurant is presenting a bottle of wine to the table host and his guests.

Lately, I’ve been reading Women, Race, and Class by Angela Davis. It’s not a business book—it’s history, sociology, and truth-telling all in one. But here’s what struck me: so much of what she writes about is actually relevant to business.

The fight for dignity, for being seen, for being treated fairly is not a political act, it's human decency. Isn’t that the essence of hospitality? Making people feel valued, respected, and worthy of your best.

Too often, businesses forget that. They focus on transactions, not people. But when you zoom out, it’s clear: every customer complaint, every employee struggle, every brand story is ultimately about one thing, how we treat each other.

Here’s the question I’ve been asking myself this week, and I invite you to ask it too: Where in my business can I exchange convenience for care?

True hospitality isn’t about luxury, high prices or perfection. It’s about presence, being present and truly giving a damn.

Every business challenge is ultimately about how we treat each other.

Alongside Angela Davis, I’ve been revisiting Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara. These books live in very different worlds, but together they remind me: hospitality is both radical and practical. It’s big ideas, small kindnesses and really seeing people.

What’s one way you could make someone feel more seen in your business this week, whether it’s a client, a customer, or even a teammate?

Hit reply and tell me. I’d love to hear!
